WHO THE RESIDENCY IS FOR

 

The open call is addressed to:

 

– Inventors, designers, makers, and developers creating acoustic, mechanical, electromechanical, electronic, digital, or hybrid musical instruments
– Luthiers, sound artists, interaction designers, creative technologists, engineers, programmers, and performers exploring new forms of instrumentality
– Artist-researchers and interdisciplinary teams developing interfaces, controllers, sound-producing objects, adaptive systems, fabrication methods, or experimental musical tools

 

The residency welcomes established, emerging, and project-based practitioners working across craft, experimental making, physical computing, digital fabrication, open hardware, software, and hybrid practices, provided that their inquiry can develop through the program’s collaborative structure.

 

Projects may enter at different stages. Applicants may propose a concept, historical reconstruction, functional prototype, instrument family, interface, controller, software–hardware system, material experiment, research project, or broader investigation of paradigms, originality, authenticity, excellence, access, sustainability, and musical knowledge.

 

The format requires sustained engagement across both the online and on-site stages.

 

Participants should be prepared to:

 

– Present and contextualize their design, making, development, or research practice
– Share prototypes, instruments, drawings, schematics, code, recordings, tests, or working materials
– Engage constructively with the inquiries and practices of other participants
– Offer and receive precise artistic, material, technical, historical, and critical feedback
– Discuss design, fabrication, interaction, acoustic, electronic, computational, ethical, and institutional questions
– Participate in listening, testing, prototyping, performance, documentation, analysis, and reflection
– Remain responsive to the transformation of their projects through collective inquiry
– Contribute to a shared environment of attentiveness, reciprocity, curiosity, safety, and responsibility

 

The program particularly suits participants who understand instrument development not as technical optimization or product innovation, but as artistic inquiry capable of questioning and transforming musical paradigms.
