ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT

 

For acoustic, mechanical, material, and craft-based work, the residency supports:

 

– Deeper understanding of paradigms, histories, and criteria shaping instrument making
– Engagement with historical models, craft lineages, tools, and fabrication processes
– Examination of embodied knowledge in making, testing, repair, and use
– Specific artistic, material, technical, and critical feedback
– Refinement of resonance, response, ergonomics, durability, playability, and musical affordance
– More deliberate relationships to craft, tradition, experimentation, sustainability, and authority
– Greater capacity to articulate instrument making as artistic research and musical knowledge
– Preparation of individual and collaborative projects for public presentation

 

For participants working through electronics, software, interaction design, or hybrid systems, the residency supports:

 

– Direct engagement with instrumental paradigms as subjects and methods of artistic research
– Development of historically informed technological and interaction-design practices
– Expanded methods for sensing, mapping, prototyping, testing, and documentation
– Articulation of computational, embodied, situated, and tacit technical knowledge
– Critical examination of originality, authenticity, excellence, agency, access, ownership, and standards
– Integration of genealogical inquiry into contemporary instrument development
– Contribution to collaborative experiments, demonstrations, performances, and shared musical questions
– Participation in public presentations within an international festival context

 

For every participant, the residency provides a structured context in which artistic and technical development emerges through sustained making, dialogue, comparison, experimentation, testing, reflection, and engagement with the work of others.
